3 Years Anniversary of Wenchuan Earthquake:

International Symposium on Earthquake-induced Geological Disasters

and Disaster Reduction

 “3 Years Anniversary of Wenchuan Earthquake: International Symposium on Earthquake-induced Geological Disasters and Disaster Reduction” was held in Chengdu University of Technology on May 12^th to 15^th 2011. There were more than 160 attendees from about 10 Countries and regions (Britain, Norway and France etc.). And there were 39 attendees having done academic reports and 9 attendees having done academic keynotes. The congress mainly aims at providing a discussion forum for the experts of the engineering geology and the relative fields, which involved in geological disasters caused by the earthquake and disaster reduction issues. The issues of this conference were listed as follows:

(1)    Geological hazard survey after the earthquake

(2)    The risk assessment of the landslides induced by earthquake

(3)    The mechanism of the slope damage caused by earthquake

(4)    The effect of climate change on the landslides of earthquake disaster area

(5)    The research progress about landslide debris flow caused by earthquake

(6)    Early warning monitoring of Landslide debris flow

(7)    Disaster reduction method

After the conference, more than 40 experts and scholars went to Wenchuan disaster areas for investigation. Through the survey, all of the experts and scholars saw the great changes of Yingxiu after three years. The congress achieved obviously and provided a communication and cooperation opportunity for geologists, which played an important role in further studying the interaction between the landslide and earthquake.
