Location：The 10th Asian Regional Conference of IAEG held in Kyoto
The 10thAsian Regional Conference of International Association of Engineering Geology (IAEG) was held from September 26 to 29, 2015, in Kyoto University, Japan. The conference is a large international academic conference, which is held by IAEG every two years. Around 230delegates from 12countries and regions attended the conferences. 76 engineering geology scholars from China(including 11 from Taiwan)attended this conference.
Masahiro Chigira, the chair of conference organization committee delivered opening speech and introduced the reason of the conference theme. Shuichi Hasegawa, the president of JSEG made welcome speech and introduction of the recent activities of Japan Society in Engineering Geology.Faquan Wu, IAEG Secretary General and past vice president for Asia delivered congratulation address on behalf of the IAEG executive board. Yogendra Deva, the IAEG vice president for Asia made address on behalf of Asian region.
The theme of this conference wasGeohazards and Engineering Geology, including four topics, six keynote speeches and 5 invited speeches. Chinese scholars Prof. Faquan Wu and Prof. Liyuan Feiwere invited to makethe keynote speeches on "Anactive reinforcement method for rock slope" and "The road from national LiDAR mapping program to zonation of the Geohazards in Taiwan" respectively.Prof. Chuan Tang made invited speechentitled "Recent catastrophic debris flows and risk assessment in China". 34 scholars from China made oral speeches, and the others made poster presentations.Chinese scholars carried out extensive and intensive academic communications with international colleagues. We have learnt much from the foreign related researches and offereda new insight of engineering geology developmentin Chinato the international academia.
On thelunch time of 27th October, IAEG Asian National Group’s Meeting was held. Representatives from China (including Taiwan), Japan, Korea, India, Dubai, Viet Nam, Indonesia, and Nepalparticipated the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Yogendra Deva. After the reports of national groups, the meeting mainly discussed the issues on the next 11th Asian Regional Conference, member recruitment and international cooperation.
