IAEG President Prof. Carlos and Secretary General Prof. Faquan WU visited Xi’an

From Saturday, 7^th Jan. 2012 to Tuesday, 10^th Jan. 2012, IAEG President Prof. Carlos and his wife Catarina and Secretary General Prof. Faquan WU visited Xi’an, a capital city of Shanxi province in west of China, also one of the worlds four major ancient civilization. President Prof. Carlos and his wife Catarina and Secretary General Prof. Faquan WU visited Changan University, Xi’an Centre of Geological Survey CGS, China JK Institute of Engineering Investigation and Design and the First Survey & Design Institute of China Railways (FSDI) successively and had further academic exchanges on topics both concerned during the visit.

On Sunday, 8th Jan. 2012, in Chang’an University, President Prof. Carlos made a speech “Soil improvement by grouting: theoretical basis and practical examples”. After then, associate professor of Chang’an University Qiangbing HUANG gave a speech “Ground fissures a Great Challenge to Metro Construction in Xi’an China”, and Pingping Sun, labs director of Xi’an Centre of Geological Survey CGS, made a speech “Survey and Research of Loess Landslide in Northwestern China”. Their speech focused on the hot research projects of geology engineering in Xi’an area currently from the topics on the affection and treatments of ground fissures in Xi’an construction projects and different survey methods of loess landslide in Northwestern China separately. Based on the speeches, there was a fruitful discussion.

On Monday, 9th Jan. 2012, President Prof. Carlos and Secretary General Prof. Faquan WU took a field surey on ground fissures in Xi’an. President Prof. Carlos proposed his opinions on the cause, development and treatments of ground fissures in Xi’an and exchanged opinions with scholars from School of Geology Engineering and Geomatics, Chang’an University during a further discussion. President Prof. Carlos expressed his highly appreciation to the scholars, from School of Geology Engineering and Geomatics, Chang’an University, for their achievement on ground fissures research in metro construction.

Through Xi’an visit, IAEG President Prof. Carlos and Secretary General Prof. Faquan WU made a solid foundation between IAEG and Chang’an University and related institutes in Xi’an for further cooperation in future.
